Colonnade Quilt

A while back Kimberly from Robot Mom Sews asked if I would be willing to test out a pattern for her. Of course, I said yes! 

I think she did a great job with her pattern cover. She also did a great job writing this pattern. It's so easy to follow and would be perfect for a beginner or someone who wants to showcase some of their favorite fabrics. 

Because the blocks are big, I decided to use up some of my Type by Julia Rothman fabrics that I had been hoarding to show off these big prints. 

I went with some bubble quilting and of course, had to use polkadots for the backing. The quilt measures 59 x 68, so it's a perfect size to cuddle up with on the couch.

Lucys Crab Shack Quilts

Of course, I've been holding on to this darling Lucy's Crab Shack fabric for a while. Because it's just so darn cute, I kept waiting for the perfect project to use it on. Finally one night I just yanked it down from my shelf and went to work with no actual pattern in mind. Midway through, I got the idea to make some wonky stars out of the white number fabric that came in the line. And of course to separate the colors. I couldn't have planned it better! I just love the way they came together.

 For the boy version, I quilted it using a small loopy star pattern. It measures 40.5" x 35.5".

For the girl version, I quilted bubbles. This one is just a bit smaller than the other one, measuring 35.5" x 35.5".

Chain Linked Quilt

Today I woke up to snow! The cold and I do not love each other. Actually, I just don't love the cold at all. Forget about what it thinks of me. So once March hits, I consider it spring and don't want to hear about the cold for several more months. 

Saturday, however, was amazing weather! The kind I really love. And it was perfect for snapping a few pictures. 

This quilt was pieced by my friend Wendy. She decided she wanted to learn to quilt a few weeks ago and here we are! She was so fast, especially for her first. I quilted it up for her using a large orange peel pattern. I think it turned out great! She's so in love and I think she made be hooked. She's already bought the fabric for her next quilt. 

 I shared another picture on my Instagram the other day that shows just a bit of her fun chevron minky back. I don't know why I didn't get any pictures of it on my regular camera and I'm sure there's a way for me to post that here but I'm just not figuring it out.

XOXO Valentine Quilt

Valentine's is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for. It's nice to have some bright cheery color during the blah winter months. 

My older sister's birthday is on Valentine's day and I remember my dad always waking her up to an oldies song playing on the radio. He always had a bouquet of flowers for her and a single flower for the rest of us girls so we wouldn't feel left out on this fun holiday. 

I've started my own tradition of serving my family heart shaped waffles for breakfast and giving them a little valentine of their own. It's such a great day to show our loved ones how much we care for them. 

When Rae brought this darling XOXO quilt to me for machine quilting, it was love at first sight for me. I definitely have plans to make one of my own using this same pattern. I chose to quilt it with an all over heart pattern. It's fun to see all the seasonal projects our friends are bringing in.

Baby Love Quilt

I wanted to show you my Baby Love quilt from Camille Roskelley's book Simply Retro, now that it is all quilted and bound. The fabric is Happy Go Lucky by Bonnie and Camille and I quilted it in a baptist fan pattern which I love. 

When I was trying to get the quilts all completed for Jana's quilt-along, I was moving so fast, that it was all I could do to get a top pieced together. My goal for this year is to go back through each of them to get them totally finished (as well as every other WIP that I have waiting). 

  

I love making baby quilts because they are so much fun to gift. I was able to give this to my friend's darling new baby and have loved seeing a few of her IG photos all snuggled in tight. 

This was such a fun and easy quilt for a baby, it makes me want to sew a million more.

Customer Quilt Catch Up

As I was looking through my pictures, I realized I haven't shown quite a few of the customer quilts that I have quilted in the past few months. So here are just a few...

Nancy's: 

This is the last of the three that Nancy pieced for her daughters. I love the soft colors that she used and the nine patch pattern on point. So pretty!

It's quilted with the wave on wave pattern that we did on this chevron quilt. I really love the way it looks. 

Jessica's:

 This darling quilt was made by Jessica for her cute daughter's bed. It was also her first time piecing a quilt. Didn't she do a great job?

We did a cute bubble pattern on this quilt to help break up the long rows of fabric. Love it!

Judy's:

Judy made this sweet quilt for one of her grandbabies. It really is such a sweet one. I love the fabric that she used and all the pinwheels, especially on the border. 

 She wanted a plain meander as to not distract at all from the piecing. It worked out perfectly.

First Finish of the Year

I officially finished this quilt, binding and all. Finally! Now to make some cute pillows...

I have been working on it forever. For a while I wasn't liking it so much and so I just kept throwing it to the bottom of my WIP pile. In fact I blogged about the problems with it clear back in March. I can't even believe it has been that long. I quilted it with a large loopy pattern, hoping to be able to ease in some of the extra fabric so it wouldn't look so wonky. Well, it worked. Hallelujah! Then after washing it, it looked even better. I love the look of a crinkly quilt.  

A few of the customers that I quilt for have used a sheet as a back and I thought I would try it with a sheet that I got on clearance at Target a few years ago. I have quilted them before and they always looked just fine, but I was worried how it would look and feel after the quilt had been all washed up. Well, it still looks good. I don't know if I will make a habit out of this though since I love the feel of quilters cotton. What are your opinions on backing?

The Grinch Quilt

Last year, right after Thanksgiving, I stumbled across this awesome Grinch fabric from Robert Kaufman Fabrics and I just had to grab it. I had no idea what I would use it for, but I loved it too much to pass it by.  Once I was home I played around with a few ideas but settled on trying to make up my own quilt pattern. I wanted the fabric to stay the focus; not too busy but not too plain jane either. I finally decided to make simple blocks that were a bit uneven. 

And that's where I left it...

With the busyness of the holidays, it just never got finished. So I pulled it back out this year and realized just how close I was. I already had all of the blocks finished. So I was able to just sew them all together and wa-lah, a finished quilt top. 

I just added some red minky for the backing and machine quilted it with jingle bells. I love how the green thread looks up against the black background fabric. 

 And here you can see 3/4ths of my Grinch Quilt. It's not even bound yet and my boys have already slept with it under the Christmas tree. I love when a quilt is that loved.

Holly Berry Quilting

Happy December! I hope everyone's Thanksgiving weekend was great. We just got home from a fun, but long, trip to Texas to visit family and then straight to Arizona to spend Thanksgiving with some of our other family members. I'm telling ya, swimming outdoors on Thanksgiving is definitely something I (and my kids, for sure) could get used to! We had a blast but I am glad to be home and more than ready to start decorating for Christmas.

 I've been meaning to show you Yvonne's Christmas quilt for a while now, but I guess it worked that I'm just showing it off now since we are in holiday mode around here. Yvonne wanted an all over pattern and these holly leaves and berries did just the trick. This quilt is darling and I can't wait for her to be able to gift it this Christmas!

Texas Stars

This week my family and I have been playing it up in Texas! It's my first time here and it's a lot different than I imagined it would be. I haven't seen a cactus yet which according to all the cowboy cartoons, should be all over the place ;). Also, it's been freezing here! 60 degrees (with the humidity) in Texas is a lot different than the 60 degree (dry) weather in Utah. Even still, we've managed to have a ton of fun. Both my husband's sister and my older sister live in Texas, and fortunately, only a few hours away from each other so it's worked out that we could see both families.

My sister and I are a little less than two years apart in age so we've always been pretty close, minus the typical sibling fights of course...oh the stories we could tell ;). So it's been so much fun to hang out with her! Since I knew I was coming down, it worked out perfectly for me to get this machine quilted so I could bring it to her in person instead of mailing it like usual.

I'm glad to report that she loved the quilting. I may just have to make coming to Texas my new way of shipping her quilts!

Yvonnes Mum Quilt

A few weeks ago I shared some of Yvonne's quilts with you and I wanted to share another one. I'm calling this one the Mum quilt because of the cute purple mums on the center block.

 Each of the nine blocks have feathers quilted in a square pattern and the white sashing has some circles. My favorite part though, is the borders.

The feathered borders with straight lines ended up so cute. I can't wait to do another like this.
