Sewvivor - Lauries Entry

This quilt has been on our blog before, you can read all about it here. It is one of my most favorite quilts because of its different patterns within the quilt and it bright cheery colors. It was sew fun to make.  I am posting this quilt again because I am entering it in the first round of the Sewvivor Quilt Contest which entries close tomorrow.  You can read about the contest and see all different entries at Family Ever After. 

Texas Stars

This week my family and I have been playing it up in Texas! It's my first time here and it's a lot different than I imagined it would be. I haven't seen a cactus yet which according to all the cowboy cartoons, should be all over the place ;). Also, it's been freezing here! 60 degrees (with the humidity) in Texas is a lot different than the 60 degree (dry) weather in Utah. Even still, we've managed to have a ton of fun. Both my husband's sister and my older sister live in Texas, and fortunately, only a few hours away from each other so it's worked out that we could see both families.

My sister and I are a little less than two years apart in age so we've always been pretty close, minus the typical sibling fights of course...oh the stories we could tell ;). So it's been so much fun to hang out with her! Since I knew I was coming down, it worked out perfectly for me to get this machine quilted so I could bring it to her in person instead of mailing it like usual.

I'm glad to report that she loved the quilting. I may just have to make coming to Texas my new way of shipping her quilts!

Custom Machine Quilting

Isn't this quilt AMAZING?! Mary pieced it all, perfectly I might add, and sent it to us to be machine quilted. Of course we were thrilled and scared to death to work on something so beautiful. It must have taken her hours and hours to get all this perfect piecing completed and we wanted to showcase it in just the right way. 

It turned out beautiful! You can see some of the detail in this block below. I'm sad that I don't have more pictures to show of this quilt. I took a whole bunch before I sent it back to her, but somehow I can't find them on my computer or my camera. Luckily, Mary was nice enough to take some pictures and send them to me.   

She sent some pictures to show me a new technique she did on the binding. I think it's great! It appears to have piping in it.

Plus Quilt

 When Yvonne sent me this quilt and asked for straight line quilting, I wasn't sure how much I'd like it. But after getting all those lines on it, I have to say, it turned out awesome! She wanted all the lines to be a little uneven and I love how it adds to the scrappiness of the quilt. She did a great job with all of the piecing and the colors she chose were great. I especially love the backing fabric. 

Machine quilting is so much fun to me and I love getting to try new things that I otherwise might not have decided to do. Thanks Yvonne!

Celebration of Life quilt

Don't you just love this great quilt that Lauren pieced? I sure do. But I love the story behind it even more. She made it for her mother-in-law who is celebrating 10 years since her breast cancer diagnosis. What an awesome thing to celebrate. Her sweet family is going to be throwing her a celebration of life party where Lauren will present this to her. Isn't that so great? 

 I did a bit of custom quilting on it and gave it a feathered border. I really like how it turned out. Feathered borders might just be my new favorite, at least for now.
