Charm Quilt

Have you ever heard of a charm quilt? I had no idea what a charm quilt was.  The main goal of a charm quilt is never to repeat a fabric. A millennium charm quilt is one that has exactly 1,000 different pieces of fabrics. No two pieces of fabric can be of the same fabric. These quilts were popular in the 1860's. One legend associated  with the Charm Quilts says that when a maiden had collected exactly 999 different fabrics, the man she was to marry would appear, bearing the 1,000th fabric.
This year in my quilting group we are all making a millennium quilt. It is a year long project, which is desperately needed for 1,000 pieces. Typically charm quilts are done with hexagons, clamshell variations, pyramids or apple core patterns,  My quilt is is going to be made with 64 apples and a flying geese border. Here is the first block of the 64 apples.  I thought it would be fun to periodically show you an update on how this project progresses throughout the year.  I hope I can find over 600 cream fabrics, it will be a challenge.

Looks like a fun project. I've heard of charm projects where one fabric was repeated once...giving children home sick from school something to do - find the single pair!

Wow! That is awesome! 1. I love your blog name - so true. 2. I love the apple - so clever. I'd never seen this before!

Love your charm quilt, I'd be willing to send you a few cream squares if you email me your address. I think you might need some help to get enough!
