Charm Quilt Update

Working hard on my year long project. I now have 2 of the 8 rows needed for this millennium charm quilt. I have used 164 of the 1,000 pieces of different fabrics so far.  I think the scrappy look is coming together better than I thought.
As you can see I have been busy shopping and gathering more fabrics for this quilt. Although this looks like a lot of fabric, it actually will only complete 2 more rows. The challenge is making sure I don't duplicate the fabric.
I would like to give a special thanks to Ilene for mailing me a package full of light colored fabrics to use in my charm quilt. It was such a surprise to see the amount of scraps she sent. It is greatly appreciated and they will go a long way towards the 1,000 pieces.

Charm Quilt

Have you ever heard of a charm quilt? I had no idea what a charm quilt was.  The main goal of a charm quilt is never to repeat a fabric. A millennium charm quilt is one that has exactly 1,000 different pieces of fabrics. No two pieces of fabric can be of the same fabric. These quilts were popular in the 1860's. One legend associated  with the Charm Quilts says that when a maiden had collected exactly 999 different fabrics, the man she was to marry would appear, bearing the 1,000th fabric.
This year in my quilting group we are all making a millennium quilt. It is a year long project, which is desperately needed for 1,000 pieces. Typically charm quilts are done with hexagons, clamshell variations, pyramids or apple core patterns,  My quilt is is going to be made with 64 apples and a flying geese border. Here is the first block of the 64 apples.  I thought it would be fun to periodically show you an update on how this project progresses throughout the year.  I hope I can find over 600 cream fabrics, it will be a challenge.
